WINZ: Randi related to the format switch

On the radio station's new website, which I must point out has become substantially raunchier in the course of a day and a half.

Wow part 2.

I've been to the WINZ station in Broward County. The building was huge, had a nice décor and was fully staffed.

It took them 5 years to realize the format was not profitable? Really?

ETA: Didn't WINZ make the decision to switch formats before Randi went off the air?

If Randi was such a big part of their downturn. Why not give the woman a place to broadcast from their studio? WTF?

Lastly WTF the Gators! They are dedicating air time to a college team that isn't from South Florida?! Please!

Is that little logo they have up too much of a "likeness" of the Gators'? Wouldn't want them to violate any licensing laws, eh?

And no marketing budget and no full time employees producing radio.

If ratings can be correlated to ad revenues, than WINZ was already outperforming all the sports talk stations and one of the two conservative talk stations.

No, WINZ made the decision afterward. Randi's last live show was 2/3/09, and there weren't any substantial rumblings about WINZ making a switch until mid-march. It's worth noting that the Drobny's also mentioned Randi's disappearance as part of the reason Nova M folded; lots of people reacting by pulling back their founders' memberships.

The station has never had more than 2 full time employees; Jim DeFede and Nicole Sandler. DeFede left, and Nicole hosted in the mornings for about a year (ranking #1 in her time slot among the AM stations for a good portion of it), and then got dropped for Imus in the Morning.

It's worth mentioning something else:

Before becoming a progressive talker, WINZ was airing exactly what it's airing now: Fox Sports.

I'm aware they didn't have full time people working on the air because their broadcasts consisted of AAR or other syndicated talkers.

Who were all those people I saw working at their desks if they didn't have marketing and ad people?

I realized after the fact that I might have come off sounding rude to you. If that's the case it was unintentional, and I apologize.

There's more than one radio program that operates out of that building.

The official WINZ address in 7601 Riviera Blvd in Miramar near the Calder race course. does that sound about right?

If it's anything like a couple stations in Phoenix I remember the station got to put their sign prominently on the building but it was an office building like any other leasing space to numerous other concerns.

Umm, WINZ is in the Clear Channel cluster in Miami. They have a buncha stations in there, including conservative talker WIOD and a load of FMs.

WINZ is not a standalone.

There are a boatload of people down here who went to U of F, my husband and father in law included. The Gators are wildly popular down here.
