It took them 5 years to realize the format was not profitable? Really?
ETA: Didn't WINZ make the decision to switch formats before Randi went off the air?
If ratings can be correlated to ad revenues, than WINZ was already outperforming all the sports talk stations and one of the two conservative talk stations.
No, WINZ made the decision afterward. Randi's last live show was 2/3/09, and there weren't any substantial rumblings about WINZ making a switch until mid-march. It's worth noting that the Drobny's also mentioned Randi's disappearance as part of the reason Nova M folded; lots of people reacting by pulling back their founders' memberships.
If Randi was such a big part of their downturn. Why not give the woman a place to broadcast from their studio? WTF?
Lastly WTF the Gators! They are dedicating air time to a college team that isn't from South Florida?! Please!
The station has never had more than 2 full time employees; Jim DeFede and Nicole Sandler. DeFede left, and Nicole hosted in the mornings for about a year (ranking #1 in her time slot among the AM stations for a good portion of it), and then got dropped for Imus in the Morning.
It's worth mentioning something else:
Before becoming a progressive talker, WINZ was airing exactly what it's airing now: Fox Sports.
I've been to the WINZ station in Broward County. The building was huge, had a nice décor and was fully staffed.
And no marketing budget and no full time employees producing radio.

I'm aware they didn't have full time people working on the air because their broadcasts consisted of AAR or other syndicated talkers.
Who were all those people I saw working at their desks if they didn't have marketing and ad people?

If it's anything like a couple stations in Phoenix I remember the station got to put their sign prominently on the building but it was an office building like any other leasing space to numerous other concerns.
